HSE Regulatory Associate – An experienced regulatory solicitor with upwards of 3 PQE is sought to work on a rich variety of professional regulatory, HSE matters and investigatory work. The team is tight-knit, highly supportive and produces some of the best regulatory lawyers in the country often advising on high-profile matters. - Previous experience: The team is looking to attract an accomplished and experienced regulatory solicitor with a minimum of 3 PQE. All applicants should ideally have advised on a broad range of matters and have solid experience of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984, including Criminal Procedure Rules 2015.
STRUCTURE OF TEAM AND NATURE OF WORK
The successful candidate will effectively be joining a specialist ‘sub team’ within the overall regulatory department. In particular, you will work with two of the most experienced regulatory lawyers in the office who advise on all aspects of the more sensitive high-profile cases brought by the police and the Health and Safety Executive as well as other bodies such as DEFRA, OFCOM and OFSTED.
As a whole the team advises the full gamut of clients from individuals to global companies. The cases can be anything from high-profile regulatory breaches to matters involving serious accidents and corporate manslaughter. The solicitors with the department advise on everything from guiding and advising clients through a regulatory investigation, crisis management as well as providing pro-active advisory support to ensure clients do not fall foul of the law.
IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR THE ROLE
Because of the nature of the position and the way it fits with the overall structure of the team, the team is in need of an experienced regulatory solicitor with a minimum of 3 years PQE. Candidates should be bright and technically proficient. At this stage in your career, you should have developed a thorough understanding of the workings of the relevant legislation in this area such as PACE. You should also be comfortable attending Court as well as guiding clients through regulatory investigations including providing advice to clients under regulatory investigation.
The team are looking to hire a candidate who is also comfortable developing contacts and is willing to be involved in pushing the team forward. The department already has an established reputation as one of the best reputations in the country on which they are looking to capitalise. Academic proficiency is certainly important, but applicants looking to apply should also be personable and good at developing relationships.
